This means: large structures look similar to small ones. And the entire fractal is 'one thing'. The size of a structure has a direction: large-> above, small-> below. So: 'self-similarity' could be translated to 'as above so below'. And most likely the mystics are (unknowingly) referring to the fractal behaviour of our world. Physicists also try to describe the same world, only from a different angle. So they would use less mystic terms, even if they want to address the same idea (as the Jesuits). TH
