As usual you posted a particularly perspicuous post.

I accept that Einstein's equations (with a tip of the hat to Riemann - didn't some scientist once say something about if I see farther it's because I"m standing on the shoulders of giants?) are accurate to the limits of our observation.

I make two notes:

1. you also say something about Einstein's equations (EE's from now on) take note of the fact that gravity is actually exerted by mass uniformly (for all practical purposes) distributed in a 3-dimensional sphere. Are you saying that EE's are simply a mathematical way of expressing that? But I'm waiting for the book you recommended on Einstein's science and math so that might also help.

2. I still can't help but feel that 'space is curved' is simply a metaphor for the geodesics mass imposes on mass/energy in its vicinity. Geodesics don't describe space, they describe the paths objects are constrained to - not constrained by space but by mass in that space.

   b. there's still a 3-dimensional coordinate system that describes a flat space in which these geodesics are elaborated. A Mobius strip exists in a flat space (in its own coordinates IT is 'flat'?). In a sense then is our space, subjected to gravity, something like a Mobius strip in a flat space?
So I can't help but feel we actually live in the flat space, but move and are moved in the 'Mobius strip' of gravity-space. That may be just a subjective perception, or it might be that there actually IS a flat space this 'curved space' is embedded in, in which case it's the flat space my mind defers to, even if my body defers to the curved space. So to me space is not curved, and the geodesics are a property of mass-energy not space.
Mass creates the geodesics and mass-energy responds via them.

    c. does energy, because of the mass-energy equivalence, also curve space
in the EE way?
