I can recall some troubleshooting site which included the cable in the 
hdd's strategy list.  SATA cable connectors are considered 'weak'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Data_connector  They are more 
susceptible to accidental unplugging and breakage than PATA,
