That thing is pure snake-oil and a complete waste of money.
It had some use in the MFM times, but no MFM drive ever had SMART.

First, a SMART failure does not mean the drive is inacessible.
What you need to do is diagnose the problem. For that, post the
SMART attributes here, obtained, e.g. with the smartmontools
or HDDSentinel.

Then we wills ee what can be done.
