Thanks, Martin and Chris.

Unfortunately, when I get the Save box for the file I want to save and 
type news:filename I get the message "To save, drag the icon to a 
directory display."

Yet   *show news:   does show that the "set" commands have worked.

I was expecting the same sort of behaviour you get when you type 
$.filename -- ie, a full pathname -- into the Save box.
