People often use a VPN because their crappy ISPs block stuff (tor,
bittorrent, e-mail on port 25, VOIP if it's a wireless broadband
provider).

Sadly, VPN providers have the same problem.  For example, I signed up
for "securevpn.to" to bypass the fact that my ISP blocked port 25,
only to discover that securevpn.to also blocks port 25.  So the
application specific ones are those known not to block the service you
intend to use the VPN for.

I find all VPN comparison sites (including vpnranks.com) to be lousy.
I don't care to know what uses are supported; I want to know what's
*blocked*.  VPN providers do not advertise what they block, and the
comparison sites are not doing a good job of collecting this
information from unhappy customers.
