THat's basically what I found. I waited around till I came across some computer suitable for Linux, but by the time I found one cheap, things had moved on so it wasn't really suitable. I certainly learned from that 486 that something better was needed. So then I actually spent $150 on a 200Mhz Pentium, a big leap forward for me, and all was well.
