I used to use vi back in the late '80s and early '90s. I realize vi is a
text editor, but I could never understand why the Unix machines did not have
a word processor even half as decent as AppleWorks on the Apple IIe. Always
seemed weird to me.

Used to use tin, too. Just checked: tin does not come with OS X. Drats.
Could always get it if I wanted though.

Vim comes with OS X. Never use it though.

With OS X, when you full screen an app it becomes its own "Space", the term
for virtual desktops.

By default my only complaint with OS X "Spaces" is you cannot name the
Spaces - but third party support exists for that. And, really, the complaint
is on principle - it is not as if I use virtual desktops that way.

Middle-click to open a link in a new tab. That is default.

I also have a programmable mouse so I use the middle click for all sorts of
other things: mostly show / hide in different software (showing or hiding
read / unread posts, or guilds and the like in graphic programs, etc.). In
video editors I generally have it set to show the whole timeline.

Oh, I get you can still do the other things... just would not want to
clutter my clipboard with every selection. I have a clipboard manager and
use it to find old things I copied. Good to have it so I only have things go
in there if I actually want to copy them.

To be clear: not putting down your usage - to each their own. Just
describing mine.

See above... use the middle click for many things. And the other buttons on
my 8-button mouse.

Ah, good. I knew it worked in my VM but was not sure if that was from some
translation of keys (could have checked... just didn't). That is a key usage
for middle click and would suck to have it go away.

Middle click works in all browsers I know of on OS X, but some also use it
to have the stupid scroll thingy some browsers push on you. Firefox, for
example. Ick. I am sure I could turn it off if I used Firefox more and cared
to.
