There's certainly tons of automotive computer equipment in this world.
You might ask on comp.arch.embedded where there's probably more
knowledge on the topic.  I know that CAN bus stuff gets discussed there
from time to time.  Usually it's 12 volts though.  As Rickman says,
maybe the answer is a dc/dc converter in your device.  Searching
digikey.com for automotive dc-dc converters finds lots of parts that
might be suitable.  But, you probably need additional
filtering/transient suppression to deal with the nasty electrical
environment usually found in vehicles.
