I have to say, I can't really see the problem here.  

If people want mice (and I imagine many people will continue to want
something other than the pointing devices Apple manufactures, for many
reasons) then manufacturers will keep making them.

The only problem that might arise is if Apple decided to do away with
any means of supporting peripherals other than their own.  That seems
extremely unlikely and not in consonance with any historical Apple
practices.
