In some cases it's also probably also caused by people eating at their
computers. It would also probably be worse in certain climates (for
example, people in humid conditions with sweaty hands).

One place I worked had about 10 of the Mighty Mouse iMacs when they
were first released, and they were in use the all day every week day
(and very occasionally at weekends) with nobody ever having any issue
with them.

Like ALL mice, the Magic Mouse will "gunk up" on the underside and need
regular cleaning, which is extremely easy to do of course. On occasion
the "gunk" can even block the sensor.
