(Michelle: good luck with that.) if you read the post to which you responded, you'd see that i said, 'in another thread'. that means that reading upthread isn't going to net what you thought you might find. but since you asked, here you go: In article <020220141107167328%michelle@michelle.org>, Michelle Steiner <michelle@michelle.org> wrote: > > audiophile equipment is not a good example. > > > > it may be low volume, but it's not 'high end'. > > > > it's largely snake oil, and with a customer base that believes nearly > > anything and is only too happy to pay for what they think makes a > > difference, despite the laws of physics saying otherwise. > > I'm referring to components (receivers, amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, > turntables, etc.) not interconnecting cables and similar devices. > Whether they are actually audibly better, they're still "high end" > based on price and perceived quality. Do you think > that an amplifier with a 20-20,000 KHz range with 0.1% THD sounds the > same as one with a 50-5,000 KHz range with 5.0% THD? since she now says she can't hear past 5khz, then she won't be able to tell the difference, even with her straw man piece of shit amp. once again, in double-blind tests, people consistently can't tell the difference between normal gear (not junk) and audiophile grade. they *think* they can, but when the rubber meets the road, they do no better than chance. in other words, they're guessing. even supposed 'trained audiophiles' can't tell the difference between monster cable and coat hangers, and some even preferred the latter. audiophile equipment is one of the biggest scams around.
