nonsense. someone thought it would be useful enough to implement in
postfix, with millions of people using it every day. google thought it
was useful enough to fully support it in gmail.

no it doesn't at all. although there's some overlap, one does not
replace the other. each can do some things the other cannot.

that's the standard response of lazy developers.

nonsense. gmail is not the only client that supports it. 

it's a standard feature of postfix, which is widely used, including by
google with gmail.

gmail doesn't solve the problem, it just changes the server. the
problem is still exactly the same. apple mail won't sort gmail folders
either.

there are email clients that can do it but they suck in other ways,
such as being powerpc only or having an interface designed by sadists.
