Let's call all these people "iconoclasts" -- that is, it is a fact that they are making claims that are counter to conventional thought. This is fact without regard to motive. Now let's look at motives for iconoclasm. There are three: 1. The iconoclast really is privy to new knowledge and is sharing the discovery. 2. The iconoclast is a fraud, having fabricated the claims being shared. 3. The iconoclast is deluded, having been fooled by a fraud but still earnestly believing it, and sharing the fraudulent claim. Now then, John, given these three possibilities, when you see an iconoclastic claim, how would you know which of these three cases applies? What would be your tool to determine that? Or do you even care? Maybe all that matters to you is the iconoclastic claim, and you don't even CARE whether it's true, or it's a fraud, or it's a delusion. Of people. In anatomy class. There is NO WAY that was done with "joints from the butcher and strawberry jam". He was LAUGHING at those who forced him to recant. Even if they see a crust on Jupiter, and Gallileo saw atmosphere much thicker and half the Helium, you'll probably deduce Helium ice or something. You'll never change your mind

Well, if you wish to believe in things like "swarming gravitons", subatomic particles with no structure, and electrons that never need or give off energy because someone wrote it in a book, that's your choice. But I recommend thinking for yourself, at some point.

I'll reiterate something I said earlier, John. In science, it isn't about choosing what to believe. It's about what DATA says is true, what EXPERIMENT says is true. All that entails is CHOOSING what you want to believe in, and to hell with experimental data, and therefore to hell with science. Notice how you operate. Do you look at data about how subatomic particles behave? Do you read any books that describe that data? No. You just DECIDED to believe what you want to believe, that all things have structure, and you frankly don't care whether data supports a different idea or not. If the data doesn't agree with your cherished belief, then according to you the data isn't worth looking at. So in this way, you will NEVER think like a scientist. Just like there wasn't anything to back up his hearsay report of what he heard some pilot report about a landed alien. No steps to reproduce, no way to verify.
