Since I also never heard of any new star "X9" and also see nothing about
any new star "X9" in Google, I guess the question remains, WTF are you 
blithering about?

Might as well ask whether scientists used GR when they calculated the
weight of pregnant unicorns.

It shouldn't be too hard.  For a particular galaxy, start with a rotation 
period vs. radius graph.  From standard Newtonian physics, you can derive
an enclosed mass vs. radius graph from it.  Look at this graph.  Is it 
monotonically increasing?  If not, interesting!  There must be negative
mass or something where an increased radius encloses smaller mass!
Go claim your Nobel Prize!
Otherwise, kind of boring.  Now subtract the visible mass at each
radius.  What you are left with is invisible mass.  Now, if your name
is John Sefton, go find a 5 year old to explain "invisible heavy stuff"
to you.  Otherwise, you found the distribution of dark matter in the
galaxy.

It's a planet, not a star.  Do you even know the difference?

called it the Ninth Planet or Planet 9.
