What did Richard Feynman really mean by this: "Where did we get that (equation) from? Nowhere. It is not possible to derive it from anything you know. It came out of the mind of Schrödinger.” Regards, Jay Bala

All equations have roots, not a one just materializes out of nowhere. Well... save the crap you see on TBBT whiteboards. Think of Newton, Lagrangian, Hamiltonian, Saha, Hilbert, JAW, QED, QCD, ... Thankfully, they @#TBBT stopped using equations on whiteboards as backdrops since Penny needlessly got her hair cut. Miss that hair! -- Mahipal “IPMM... माहिपाल ७६३८: Penn(y) for your thought...”

OK, repeating history others have made up and written in books isn't
quite the same as making it up yourself. But you are still responsible
for promoting the fantasies. I stand corrected.

So you can look up, say, "Schrodinger" in a book by Feynman to see what Feynman actually said about Schrodinger. The index points to the page, and you go to the page and you look for the word "Schrodinger" and then you just read the sentences containing that word. And as it turns out, I have a number of books by Feynman, and so it was really easy to do what I just described. And BEHOLD, there is no statement like what you wrote above that shows up in that search. So since this is something anyone can do with a book, even a child, you can understand why people might suspect that you just make this shit up. -- Odd Bodkin --- maker of fine toys, tools, tables
