Historically and originally, the "far" side was called the "dark" side because of its completely unknown aspect. The term "dark" referred only to ignorance and lack of knowledge and *never* connoted a shadowy condition from lack of light. Ever hear of the "Dark Ages?" The medieval period was not dark because the sun had vanished, but only because historical records were virtually nonexistent. > > Would radio noise really be absent? To travel to Mars, nothing new would have to be attained. Current knowledge and technology would just have to refined and reapplied, and that is a straightforward, if expensive, matter. Regarding the ISS, that project is as useless and misguided as any trip to Mars. Any Mars venture would be much better implemented with advanced robotic vehicles. An actual manned mission is pure folly.
