True, but your research method certainly allows for improvement.

First of all, Wikipedia is a wiki-based encyclopedia; the key idea is that 
it can be edited by anyone, knowledgable and uninformed people alike.

Second, Wikipedia is not just any wiki; it follows the scientific approach 
(which results in its quality, comparable to that of the online version of 
the “Encyclopædia Britannica” in 2005, according to a “Nature” investigation 
[1]): statements in Wikipedia articles must be properly sourced in order to 
remain.  Obvious nonsense may be removed immediately; dubious statements 
should be, can be, and are in fact challenged.

Third, if you *continue reading*, you will notice that, in accordance with 
Wikipedia’s quality standards, the link “[citation needed]” is *immediately 
following that sentence*.

IOW, *maybe* not you, but certainly the person adding that part to the 
article *may* have made it up; until it is substantiated, we cannot know, 
and everyone has every right to remove it from the article or edit it to 
meet Wikipedia standards such as “no theory-finding” and “no original 
research”.  (I might edit it if there is not a reference for the statement 
soon.  Because – I will assume in your favor – you have overlooked or 
disregarded the “[citation needed]” link already, I have added a better 
visible warning on top of that article.)

While that is true, for example Johannes Kepler (16th century CE) already 
knew that the far/back side of the Moon was not always dark.  So there was 
no reason to call it the “dark side”, except by people who have no clue what 
they are talking about (whom, in this *scientific* newsgroup, we do not take 
as a measure of correctness).

(Notice how the referred source is categorized *by its author*.  I think an 
apology to me by you is in order now.)

Finally, ISTM that, supported by the unsourced statement, you are committing 
a historian’s fallacy here.  Just because there is the term of “dark energy” 
in cosmology *now* (which really refers to “unknown”), there need not have 
been a term of “dark side of the Moon” to mean “unknown side of the Moon”.
