You would be wrong. You do not have line-item authority over how your tax money is directed. No taxpayer does. By deliberate design, we live in a representative democracy, by which you implicitly authorize elected officials, who in turn have the authority to appoint other officials, to dispense with pooled tax dollars at THEIR discretion (not yours). If you are displeased with how those elected officials carry out those authorized duties, your recourse is to replace them in the next election. If you think this is a silly way to run a country and do not wish to comply, you always have the freedom to emigrate.
