What is it about retired engineers that makes them think they are better

It seems there's a class of engineers who perhaps at one time aspired to
be physicists but in their mind they "settled" for engineering. Now that
the engineering career is over, they want to take another shot at doing
physics. And they're astonished at not being recognized for their
physics musings. "Why am I not published? Why are my ideas not embraced
by the physics community? My mind is sound! I am capable! I've been an
engineer for a long time, for Pete's sake, and so I can do anything!"

And when this hubris results in nothing but the sound of crickets, they
shiver with rage, turn red in the face, and cry "CENSORSHIP!"

And, unsurprisingly, the conspiracy theory is *strewn* with plain *lies*.
For example:

| TIME DILATION AND LENGTH SHORTENING ARE THEORETICAL APPARENT PHENOMENA
| ONLY TO AN OUTSIDE OBSERVER, RELATIVELY MOVING WITH RESPECT TO US, THEY
| ARE APPARENT TO HIM ONLY, THEY ARE NOT REAL.
|
|
| b) […] As an example let us take the following sentence from his section
| VII of his 1905 thesis: “In short, let us assume that the simple law of
| the constancy of the velocity of light c (in vacuum) is justifiably
| believed by the child at school.”

In actual fact, Einstein wrote 5 revolutionary scientific *papers* in 1905
(therefore called /annus mirabilis/ – “wonderful year”).

He later submitted the 1905 paper that substantiated the atomic hypothesis
(„Eine neue Bestimmung der Moleküldimensionen” – “A new determination of
molecule-dimensions”; translation mine) as his dissertation (doctoral
thesis) to the University of Zurich; *none* of those two which together with
others later came to be called “special relativity” (“On the Electrodynamics
of Moving Bodies” and “Does the Inertia of a Body Depend upon Its Energy-
Content?”). In his dissertation, there is no “section VII”; he uses
*arabic* numbering (as he did in all his 1905 papers at least):

<https://www.research-collection.ethz.ch/bitstream/handle/20.500.11850/139872/eth-30378-01.pdf>

(Truly remarkable, only 22 pages for a dissertation; but, of course, the
content was revolutionary enough at the time.)

When one does the research that the author of the conspiracy theory
obviously did not, one finds for “child at school”, using

<http://einsteinpapers.press.princeton.edu/vol2-trans/~searchResults?searchMode=advanced&context=-2&searchParam-SearchGroup=&lang=EN&searchText=%22child+at+school%22&sortField=Sort>

only this match:

If one looks closer (by following the link), this is from *chapter* “SEVEN”
(7) of the *book* “Relativity – The Special and the General Theory” by
Albert Einstein (1917), Authorized Translation by Robert W. Lawson (Crown,
1961). And the book does not quote from an earlier work there, but is a
from-scratch attempt to explain relativity to laymen.

IOW, it is nowhere near a thesis and nowhere near 1905.

Of course, the pamphlet’s crackpot^Wauthor does not provide *any* *proper*
citation for *any* of his claims (e.g., he lists a later copy of the
aforementioned book – from 1920 – in the (*very* short) references, but does
not attribute the statement to that reference in any proper way, but to a
work that he does not even list as reference).

We can therefore reasonably assume that he has not read the cited 1905 paper
or the chapter of that book at all. And he wants us to believe that *this*
is how “Real Science” looks. Hilarious.

A failure like this would never pass the scrutiny of a proper doctoral
advisor. The author must have bought his doctoral degree somewhere,
if that claim is even true.

It is a waste of time to even think about it.

| History
|
| The Oxford English Dictionary defines conspiracy theory as "the theory
| that an event or phenomenon occurs as a result of a conspiracy between
| interested parties; spec. a belief that some covert but influential agency
| (typically political in motivation and oppressive in intent) is
| responsible for an unexplained event", and cites a 1909 article in The
| American Historical Review as the earliest usage example.[16][17] As a
| neutral term, "conspiracy" is derived from Latin con- ("with, together")
| and spirare ("to breathe").
|
| According to John Ayto's 20th century words, the phrase conspiracy theory
| was originally a neutral term and only acquired a pejorative connotation
| in the mid 1960s, implying that the advocate of the theory has a paranoid
| tendency to imagine the influence of some powerful, malicious, covert
| agency in events.[18] According to Florida State University professor
| Lance deHaven-Smith's 2013 book Conspiracy Theory in America,[19] the
| phrase conspiracy theory was deployed in the 1960s by the Central
| Intelligence Agency (CIA) to discredit John F. Kennedy assassination
| conspiracy theories. However, according to Robert Blaskiewicz, assistant

| professor of critical thinking at Stockton University and skeptical

| activist, such claims have existed "since at least 1997", but due to
  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
| having recently been promoted by deHaven-Smith, "conspiracy theorists have
  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

What Odd fails to mention in his fantasy is that the days when
Physicists did physics and engineers did engineering ended with WWII.

Today, while so-called physicists play with words like philosophers
pondering fantasies of "cosmology" and chasing never-ending
complications of sub atomic particles, real science understanding is
left to the engineers who ponder the great science questions of the time
which even find application in modern technology which the so-called
theoretical physicists can hardly operate let alone understand, let
alone invent, let alone discover the natural laws behind them. It's one
sad day for physics when all the real science discoveries seem to appear
in the IEEE transactions and not in Phys.Rev.

Then take that down a notch as clowns like Odd learn all the theoretical
nonsense of the philosopher musings by rote and become a preacher for
the school of unthinking belief rather than logical consistency. That is
where we stand today.

Such a statement is false, as I know many physicist doing physics
and many engineers doing engineering.

This does not mean a physicist cannot become engineer nor vice versa,
doing both. But it is rather exception than rule
and they are rarely very good in both domains.

No, but birth certificates were only issued to slaves before 18nth

Odd, poor idiot. In sane world a division of work
prevails. Cooperation, you know.
To make cooperation possible, output from science HAS
TO BE comprehendable for a non-scientist. it's not
any egalitarism, it's a basics of organization.
Engineers won't study your Shit for decades to use
it. They need this time to study different things.
Is it simple enough for your tiny brain?

Odd is a philosophy major and as such has to make wooden toys to live.

Needless to say pretty much nothing logical or sane is understood by
him. He thinks science is all about political debate.

I disagree. It has to be comprehensible for those who are willing to put
in the work to comprehend it. Physicists DO NOT OWE IT TO ANYONE to make
their output understandable to non-scientists with no science training.

If engineers do not want to use it, fine, don't use it. There's a welder
who posts to this group who says that, as far as he's concerned, nobody
needs to use Lorentz transformations and length-measuring devices more
precise than a tape measure because HE doesn't need them.

Keep in mind that what engineers might need to do their work does NOT
correspond to what ANYBODY might need to do their work.

That's just more engineer hubris to think that engineers speak for
humanity for what humanity needs. Pfah!

Because you're just a poor halfbrain toymaker
convinced to be elite.

It has to be comprehensible for those who are willing to put

Yes, poor idiot, they do. They are PAID for it.

Of course we won't.

Only toymakers can speak for humanity.

If there's any claim of elitism anywhere here, it's because YOU mention it.
I think you've got a complex about it.

No they are not. They are paid to do science and to communicate their
findings to other scientists. I don't know where you ever got the idea that
physicists are paid to explain physics to non-physicists.

Boinker the only thing you obviously are good for is making wooden toys.
Your thinking powers are somewhere down below Bert's. In case you didn't
notice most of the physicists you worship (the fantasy theoretical ones)
do not hold real jobs but are paid to work in universities where their
actual jobs are they are paid to explain physics to non-scientists
(freshmen). Real scientists know how to observe and think, you are an
amateur who makes wooden toys.
