|In science, an experiment confirms a theory when it is consistent with its

ones,
|then the theory is believable and becomes part of scientists' general
|understanding of the world [@]. This understanding, of course, is not case
in
|stone, and in the future a better theory could come along....

Looks almost logical, doesn't it?
But noone has ever seen a relativist yelling "Lorentz's ether
is confirmed!! Those, who don't believe it , are stupid reality
deniers!!!!!!"
Why.
Because "logic" above isn't any logic. It's just a sorry
excuse for placing good looking words, like "confirmation",
"support" or "evidence" near relativistics idiocies - against
common sense managing these words in a sane people
minds.

A primitive, common, brainwashing trick. Expected from
brainwashed fanatics.

What are the experimental results that you consider confirms [the
existence of] the ether?

Sylvia.

Me? The above is Your logic, not mine.
And, according to it, whatever confirms SR,
confirms Lorentz's ether too.
Not just one ether. There are infinite versions
of Lorentz's ether theory, differently placing
ether, and according to the logic above they are
all experimentally confirmed.

Ether in physics is equivalent the HOLY SPIRIT of the Xtian churches.
Nobody knows what it might be, why it is there and from whence it
comes. It is omnipresent, penetrates everything but cannot be grasped.
The HOLY SPIRIT is the most stupid invention of any religion ever.

Now look at your ETHER.

Unfortunately, according to logic quoted in the
first post of this thread, it's experimentally
confirmed. Don't you believe in the Holy Scientific
Method, poor idiot?

It's not my ether. It's Lorentz's.

Experimentally confirmed? Where?
Several other posters alredy asked that question.
So I ask you again.

And I answer again. According to the "logic" presented
by your fellow idiot Tom above, whatever confirms
Special Shit, confirms Lorentz's ether too. And
not just one ether.

I think he's referring to the fact that both Lorentz ether theory and
special relativity yield the same model - the Lorentz transformation. To
his mind, a verification of the model is a verification of everything
that lead up to it, and therefore any experiment that verifies the model
also verifies the existence of the ether.

Physics is about creating theoretical models. Lorentz's ideas about the
ether lead him to what we now call the Lorentz transformation. However,
this transformation has nothing at all to say about any underlying ether.

Einstein showed that we can reach the same theoretical model by
requiring that all inertial frames have the same physical laws.

The experiments verify this theoretical model. They don't go beyond that
- that's the real of philosophy.

However, Einstein then showed that one can refine the model to include
the effects of gravity, and experiments verify the refined model. I
doubt Lorentz could have reached this latter point by expanding on ether
theory.

In summary, your objections seem based on a flawed notion of what
physics is.

Sylvia.

Don't talk to me about models. I've forgot about them

And don't change the subject.

I have no doubts, that quoted above Tom's notion

Spacetime physics gives so many problems as explained below. <shrug>

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sci.physics.relativity/uj1TukLRb8M/7IcudqnBesIJ

Physicists ought to reject spacetime. It is the only logical thing to do for science. <shrug>

Please understand this. The concept of the Aether deals with tangible reality, but spacetime deals with abstract spiritual enlightenment aka wherever heaven is aka whatever that can keep the religion of relativity proliferating. <shrug>

The null results of the MMX, of course. These null results gave rise to the Voigt, Larmor's, and Lorentz's infinite other transforms. All these transforms say the absolute frame of reference must exist. <shrug>

And thus aether provides not only the absolute reference for space (to
itself, not to some mythical absolute coordinate system, but also proved
the well measured properties of "empty" space.

Obviously all mathematical entities like points, lines, infinity,
space-time etc. are all total fantasy with no reality whatsoever.

Let's explore this a little bit, Ben.
According to you, a circle is not real, nor does it correspond to
anything real.
So there is a distinction between a circular and a circular thing like a
wheel, where presumably the circular wheel is a real thing.

But maybe what you're saying is that a wheel cannot be called a circular
thing at all. Maybe because it's not PERFECTLY circular but has
imperfections no matter how slight.

Is this what you're saying?
