Quantum mechanics correctly predicts the result of the double slit experiment without treating light as a wave. Indeed, the double slit experiment can be performed using electrons, which also produces an interference pattern. Yet there can be little doubt that electrons are not waves. Consequently the results of the double slit experiment cannot be used to demonstrate that light is a wave. Sylvia.
