That statement is ambiguous since it is ambiguous whether "current" means
as of now (2018) or as of that past time.

You should write this: "Was there a time when 1 wass a prime according to
the then-current definition of a prime was true?"

That make it clear that you mean the definition of prime in use at
that past time.
