Syncthing is meant for synchronizing directories between two or more devices on a continuous basis (setup once and forget about it). It is certainly possible to use it also to share files with third parties. The initial setup is identical regardless of who owns the devices, one just needs an alternative communication channel to exchange device IDs. It is also more complicated than a "Share" button offered by some platforms or just sending a link (and password) via some other communication channel.
