If you run into such problems, you want to use pm-suspend-hybrid.  In fact,
I'd say it should be the default -- it makes suspend (but not resume)
slower, which matters jack as by that point you've already closed the laptop
and are putting it into your bag, thus you don't give it any attention
anymore.
