Because the info can be calculated in my mind while looking at several
columns for several programs means more than "a bit more functionality".

You don't know what people will eventually use and those they will
reject, and neither do I.

From what I've seen, the new info panel is part of the Finder's
"Gallery View" (ex-Cover Flow) and it only shows the meta-data
information for the current file, not a group of files.

I don't *know*, but my past guesses have proven to be mostly correct
for real-world (non-geeky) users.

Apple needs to fix the existing problems, not add more useless fluff.

So you're perspective on marketing is that novelty doesn't beckon, only
utility does? I disagree.

Nope. My "perspective" is that the OS should work properly before
adding extra, mostly unnecessary, features.

There are bugs in OS X that have never been fixed. There are actual
useful features that have been removed.

except that you can now have *multiple* tags per file, so a single
colour for the whole filename won't work.

that part is true.

Another few things I noted: Seems they want the ATV to be the "cable
box of the future" for streaming users. It's a wide open field for
them. Roku is no competition, and it seems to be an expanding market.
Quite a number of people I encounter have no dish/cable access and to
nothing but streaming/Netflix.

Also I've slowly come to depend on Feedly because news is no longer a
NYT in the morning/CBS news at night process it once was. I feel the
need to review breaking news 4-5 times a day to find out what
balls-to-the-wall lunacy has popped up during the day. The seem to be
expanding the RSS newsfeed mechanism that others in recent years have
abandoned. I find this expansion interesting.

Roku certainly is competition, they have a *huge* install base and their
product is good.

Right you are. It seems that Roku, along with Amazon Fire, Fire Stick
and even Chromecast had higher market share than ATV last summer. I
forgot the others even existed in my Apple bubble, I suppose. I have
had a Roku box for 4 or 5 years and think it sucks, so I guess that's
my limited viewpoint.

I have three Roku if you count the one built in to my TV, but I don't
use any of them. I agree with you that it sucks, compared to the
AppleTV. If there were no AppleTV, the Roku would be head and shoulders
the best.

A lot of people don't value good design and look only at price. Hell,
there are people in my family who love the Roku primarily because it is
cheaper than the AppleTV.

We haven't had cable since 2004 or so. We never looked back. Good
riddance. We just recently got rid of Netflix after their latest price
hike. Not missing it either.

I'm looking at available options here. What was your replacement for

We didn't see a need to replace internet access. So we're still using
Comcast here for net access. Most competitors around here aren't very
competitive in price or value anyway. So we have the lowest tier
business internet plan with our own Motorola Surfboard cable modem, and
no television or telephone plan at all.

Stacks on the desktop is really nice. Dark mode is loverly. Quicklook is
much more capable, the preview pane is finally useful, and Siri controls
my HomeKit devices.

I have only used Facetime to talk to my wife/kids when I was away for a
week, which nearly never happens. However, when we upgrade to iPhones X
this fall, I am sure we will be using animoji/Memoji facetime. I will
definitely be using them in iMessages.

Even with a well organized desktop, which I have, the stacks are useful.
I no longer need to put temporary images into a folder for neatness
sake, i can just have a stack. It's great. the UI is little clunky, but
part of that might be that my beta computer doesn't have a trackpad.

You're like a pregnant woman hiding behind a very skinny tree. We all see you there and thinking you are being clever. And you're so stupid you keep denying it.

Gee, imagine Steve Petruzzellis trying to pin his crap on Jonas Eklundh and me, no one has ever seen that before.

I thought it was pretty good. I haven’t finished watching all of it, but so
far so good. Bringing News and other iOS like apps to OSX is one of the items
I’ve been hoping for. I like the Dark Mode a lot. External GPU sounds
pretty ideal to me. I’ll be getting one of those for sure.

Yep, so even more people can ignore the silly 'Stocks' app. :-\

Porting iOS apps to the macOS is up to the individual developers.
According to an article in today's newspaper, some developer's who
currently produce app versions for both OSes believe it will almost
halve their developement time / costs ... doubtful, but it remains to
be seen exactly how it is implemented (and how well it works -
touchscreen interfaces using a mouse is never a good idea).

"Dark Mode" is already available (if not the default) on many 'pro' apps.

those who aren't deadbeats don't find it silly.

actually, half the time is a very good estimate since developers only
need to write one app and tweak it for each platform, versus two
entirely separate apps.

I'm not annoyed, he wants me to be but I am in stitches because Larry Washington's crap is so absurd. He purposefully didn't mention all the tasks that he would soon poo poo... and we all know why. At least he has trolls in his corner.

This forum is a leaking porta potty. Can you get Jonas Eklundh to agree? ChromeOS is based on Linux. No debate. Gee, imagine Larry Washington trying to pin his nonsense on Jonas Eklundh and me, no one has ever seen that before < @_@ >. Larry Washington is the result of the fact that Trotskyites have been employed to subvert teaching our youth. It's not mere happenstance that he is an idiotic Russian sympathizer. In spite of my views about Mint, I nonetheless continue to use it for users who've had trouble with Windows, particularly if I have seen that they're not good at running multiple programs and sending / receiving emails.
