Are these accurate instructions for setting a static I.P. address?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3s-We2YdQc I'm trying to get a static I.P. address so that my own clicks on my Web site are excluded from my Web site hits. Or should I use the program called "I.P. Notification" instead? Tom Evans

While you certainly do have control over the IP addresses within your local area network (LAN), you do not have control over the IP address of your modem or router, since that is assigned by your internet service provider. If you have typical home internet service through a cable, DSL, or fiber connection, your IP address will be dynamic (not static) unless you pay extra for a static IP address. Can you tell us more about why you want to exclude your IP address? Also, what do you mean by "web site hits"? Do you mean the Apache log files, or perhaps hit counters on certain web pages, or what? -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. I want to exclude my own clicks on my Web site pages from my Google Analytics Web site statistics for my Web site, so don't get an artificically inflated number of clcks shown. I've been using I.P. Notification to block my own I.P. address's clicks from being counted , but recently I noticed that the email notification I had set up in that program isn't working anymore. The program is supposed to email me when my exteranl I.P. address changes, to nofitify me that I must update my I.P. address filtered in Google Analytics. Tom Evans

I have many clicks on my Web site -- about 140,000 per year, but I click a few thousand times annually on my site, so that can significantly skew the statistics. (My Web site is in the top seven million on the planet, in terms of the number of page clicks.) >> I've been using I.P. Thanks, Jolly. I.P. Notification is available at the Itunes store: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/ip-notification/id428377040?mt=12 It's important to use such a program because I wouldn't know without it if my external I.P. address has changed. For your reference, records indicate that Tom Evans <tomevans9890@yahoo.ca> wrote: > It's important to use such a program because I wouldn't know without it > if my external I.P. address has changed. Nonsense. There are any number of ways to find out your externally routed IP, including using your own web server itself, which is the main target of interest. Just have your computer regularly visit a particular URL on the site (e.g., /exclude/home_mac). It can even 404 if you don’t mind that, be behind a NAT or proxy or who knows what. Then your own server will have a record of your “real” IP as said server sees it. A far better solution; no need to send me or anyone else five bucks. -- "Also . . . I can kill you with my brain." But I don't understand your proposed solutions, because your proposed solutions are written like a computer gerk would write them. And the problem isn't finding out what my external I.P. address is; it's the need to be notified to the address changing, so I can change my excluded I.P. address filter in Google Analytics.
