I used to user that feature to get an association membership directory printed and it was really neat at the end to generate the 2 sided bookelt that I would give to the printer who would assemble and stable/fold the booklets (with colour cardboard cover). I don't miss this feature because I don't need it anymore.

It has been a > while since I last used PageMarkr so I may have forgotten a few. Another one (again at least in InDesign 2) is selecting objects that are stacked. For example, if you have some text or rectangle-frame placed over a colour filled rectangle. In PageMaker, clicking on an empty area of the text box or frame-rectangle would select the colour-filled rectangle. In InDesign it will always select the top-most element. This can be highly annoying if you have a rectangular frame above some text, if you try to edit the text, InDesign will change the rectangular frame into a Text frame instead of editing the real text frame underneath. :-( You can of course use the modifier keys to select objects further down the stack, but it's an annoying and unnecessary extra step.

how interesting that people who cite PM's superiority to ID are comparing it to version 2 and they are right i didn't switch to ID until version three was released which solved the problems everyone is citing come on people... it's now up to version 10 i can find nothing in ID that is not superior to PM or if not superior, simply a different way to accomplish the task

It was only me who said version 2 since that is what I have and use the most. I have used some newer versions at other places, although I couldn't tell you what number they were. Those newer versions also suffered some of the same problems (such as selecting the "wrong" objects stacked when they are above each other). PageMaker of course also had faults, especially once Adobe bought it and started mucking about making it over-bloated.

Nothing else even comes close. I have to say that I have gotten used to InDesign and don't reminisce so much about oss of Page Maker. Perhaps because for the uses I have of the software, InDesign does work. But I do miss functions such as automatic placement (nd when you added a new page, it automatically created the text box in it etc) Also, placing images is very ackward in InDesign (but perhaps because I place an image and then scale it, maybe I should try creating an image box and then pasting image in it. And whenever you resize the bot, you have to go to Object->Fitting->scale image to fix box. In PageMaker, you could resize an image naturally. The other software I miss is Freehand. Illustrator is less natural to use and I keep having to go to google for help for stuff I don't do often.

It's UI semantics for selecting and for creating clipping masks (among many things) were far, FAR better than Illustrator's were and are.
