What hubris! "I don't use these things, so nobody need them." Yes, some
people--including professional musicians--use GarageBand. I use
Dashboard every day. Weather reports, weather radar, and the Oxford
American Dictionary and Thesaurus. But I don't assert that everyone
must use what I use, or eschew what I do not use.

Y'all got your attributions backwards. Also, y'all shouldn't take this
stuff so personally.

You'll find there's a few morons around here who think "some" means
"all". :-\

There are also another bunch of morons who believe "Me and my five
geeky friends don't do that" means "nobody" else on the planet does
either. :-\

Anyone who actually has has reading comprehension skills knows what
"*some* people" means and understands exactly what I said.

Basically, from memory of the one time I bothered to click on it, a
shortcut to a website that few people wanted to visit.

> I've honestly never ever understood Dashboard.

Dashboard was largely a gimmick that most people occasionally only
found themselves in by accident. Most of the widgets were worthless
toys. It was also ridiculous hobbled by being a separate overlaid
layer, a fact that Apple later tried to rectify by allowing widgets to
work on the "normal" layer.

> Some people use Garbageband, I guess.

"Some people" use pretty much anything. Pretty much all of the iLife
software was used by "some people", but for the vast majority most of
it was a waste of disc space. Over the years of setting up Macs for
various people (a variety of ages, both personal users and business
users), I can't think of even one who wanted or needed to use iChat,
iMovie, Garagaeband, etc. Most users simply want to be able to use the
internet / email, crate text documents / simple DTP, etc.

You can add your own ones to the Dock for sites you do want to visit.
And you can drag the ones you don't want to visit off the Dock.

It would be nice if you knew just a LITTLE about the subject before you
chimed in.

Garageband: an application for creating music that is installed on SOME Macs.

Dashboard: rightly or wrongly, an integral part of the OS as
constituted and which weighs in at all of 1.2MB on disk.

The 'silly "@" on a spring icon' hasn't been used in YEARS.

So you're removing icons from the default Dock and you think that is
doing much?

What would you put in the Dock from the beginning, and why are your
choices better?

Everyone also gets the same web browsers -

http://www.chromium.org/Home/chromium-security/security-faq

  #TOC-How-does-key-pinning-interact-with-local-proxies-and-filters-

| Chrome does not perform pin validation when the certificate
| chain chains up to a private trust anchor. A key result of this
| policy is that private trust anchors can be used to proxy (or
| MITM) connections, even to pinned sites. "Data loss prevention"
| appliances, firewalls, content filters, and malware can use this

| We deem this acceptable because the proxy or MITM can only be

| the connection will fail as it should.

I found it amusing that the supposed computer "consultant" Alan"Dick" Baker couldn't speak to you civilly.

He is a prolific keyboard warrior who only insults behind the safety of his keyboard.

Last year, in real life, someone broke his face for opening his big mouth. His injuries required stitches.

They now ignore the jerk on all the other groups.

He is a little, lard assed coward, without a chin.

Actually, Alan Baker did respond to JF Mezei in a civil manner.

Apparently, you are referencing Alan's response to "Your Name", who said
that things like GarageBand, Dashboard, and so on are Apple-installed
"bloatware", which is an incorrect characterization of those programs in
the opinions of the many folks who do find them to be useful.

It's no surprise you made this mistake in attribution since you posted
from the Google Groups interface, which hides quoting and attributions
by default. That's no excuse though. It's certainly not hard to figure
out who says what to whom - even with the Google Groups interface. All
you have to do, after all, is click the little link that says "show
quoted text". You'll need to figure that out if you don't want to look
foolish in the future.

Doubt it. Sounds more like a lame little story you made up. Feel free to
provide objective information that we can use to vet your story
ourselves. Until then I'll assume you are lying through your teeth. And
I won't hold my breath, for obvious reasons.

It appears you are also a "prolific keyboard warrior who only insults
behind the safety of his keyboard". Small world!

Thanks, JR.

Michael Patelmo (I believe) is a sad little man who has taken to
following me from group to group; so much does he smart from being
bested in arguments.

Oops, my bad. Sorry for insulting your man friend.

When are you going to suck each others dicks again? Soon you hope.

JR: Isn't great when people go out of their way to let you know that
they are assholes? It makes life much simpler.
