Can't get much more responsive than that.

2 years overdue is not exactly 'responsive'.

Apple has been making corrections all along, so your contention that
they haven't been making any for two years is just plain wrong.

it's not wrong at all. they've been very slow in fixing map errors.

it's nice that they're now doing it daily but that should have happened
2 years ago when the shitstorm about maps hit.

The fact is that they can't be much more responsive than they are now,
and you durn well know that is what I had meant.

Your "they should have done it then" complaint merely shows that you're
a member of the "me generation": "I want it now! I don't want to have
to wait. <whine>"

That's a major conclusion to draw from such small premises, Michelle.
And it outstrips all logic while showing a strong prejudice.

Has Maps been usable at all in those two years? I mean for the purpose
intended.

That depends on what one expects from it. Even a gas station foldout
is usable to a degree. iMap was not as usable as it should have been
in the instance of the missing highway in Canada.

google's maps are more accurate plus it has street view, which apple's
maps sorely lacks and never will get (flyover is not a substitute).

Yes, and the same can be said of Google or any other map service. All
map services have errors of various types and in different locations.
Luckily we have a choice. I choose Apple Maps because it works great and
gets me where I need to go in the locations I frequent.

> google's maps are more accurate

Certainly not in all cases, and certainly not in all areas. And which is
technically better, by whatever margin, doesn't really interest me when
Apple Maps gets me where I need to go and is usable for its intended
purpose.

>plus it has street view, which apple's

I don't need street view, and I'm sure there are many others like me.
Maps has been usable for the intended purpose since day one for many
people. No amount of your blackballing can change that fact.

based on what?

street view is exceptionally and something apple will never have.
that's just the way it is,

for those who want street view, apple maps is a non-starter.

flyover is a lame substitute and doesn't cover very many areas and it
never will.

it's intended purpose is to provide accurate maps and it failed at that.

for you maybe, but for many, it works just fine, and sometimes better
than google maps, depending on the location.

it's not my opinion or anyone elses opinion. it's reality.

google has more accurate maps overall, with a *lot* more people working
on maps than apple does, and has been for a *lot* longer.

apple's maps are not horrible (nobody ever said they were) but they are
not as accurate as google's and will remain less accurate for a very
long time.

i meant to say exceptionally useful, and indeed it is for *many* people.

in any event, you have *no* idea how many people want or don't want
street view, other than yourself.

apple and google aren't making software for you personally.

but it does for the rest of the world where it doesn't cover the

apple publicly apologized for how bad their maps are.

nobody said otherwise.

however, apple's maps are likely to be worse for a given area because
the data overall is worse.

apple admits it's not as good. why can't you?

Wrong. Apple Maps has provided accurate maps for me in the areas I
frequent since the very beginning. And I've read reports from others
saying that Apple Maps has been accurate for them as well. So I'm not
alone. So no, not "for everyone".

> apple publicly apologized for how bad their maps are.

The fact that Apple publicly apologized does not magically mean the
everyone on planet Earth found Apple Maps to be inaccurate or unusable.
You've failed at basic logic.

nospam: "it's intended purpose is to provide accurate maps and it failed at

nospam: "for everyone"

Prove it, or I call bullshit.

Show me where Apple said that Apple Maps isn't as good as Google Maps,
or I call bullshit.

Now you'll no doubt claim you have already provided "proof" in the form
of your own personal _opinions_, because that's what you do.

I posted a link to a report that says that Apple is updating maps,
based on user input, daily, as contrasted to weekly as it had been
doing, and commented that you can't get much more responsive than that
(clearly meaning daily updates). Nospam replied that it's not
responsive because Apple should have been providing daily updates two
years ago, clearly and most likely deliberately missing my point.

> Has Maps been usable at all in those two years?

Absolutely.

> I mean for the purpose intended.

Of course.

It hasn't been perfect, but it was getting better all through those two
years. No consumer mapping program is perfect.

i didn't miss anything. it's great that it's now daily but the point is
that they should have been doing daily updates starting 2 years ago.

they waited two years to go daily.

that should have been done 2 years ago, which would have given users a
sense of confidence that they were actually doing something.

> Your "they should have done it then" complaint merely shows that you're
> a member of the "me generation": "I want it now! I don't want to have

nonsense.

the problems with maps have been known for over 2 years.

why did they wait so long to implement daily updates?

you said 'can't get more responsive than that' and yes, they can and
didn't.

and, seriously, folks, thank the gods that we have nospam here to hold
grudges against apple and continually remind us of this! see, this way
we will never have to worry about forgetting it! nospam is doing us a
wonderful service!

and if the rest of the world would just remain in the past holding
grudges like nospam, this might actually matter to us too! instead, lots
of us are happily using Apple Maps as if these problems don't affect us!
to nospam, this cannot be. cant we see the light? nospam must *really*
want us to see it to bring this up over and over again! wtf is wrong
with us? clearly we know no better and apple has us fooled or something!

it's not a grudge. apple mismanaged maps. it's that simple.

this is a fact, no matter how much you want to deny it. not only did
apple apologize for screwing it up, but it also cost scott forstall his
job along with many other people.
