A couple of my Latin teachers were pretty stubborn about even trying to 
understand other languages.  They were either incapable of pronouncing 
foreign names properly or just plain stubborn.

Latin helped me greatly when it came to learning German and Russian.  In 
contrast, my sister who didn't do Latin had great difficulty with the 
German dative case, as did many of the native Spanish speakers in my 
German classes here in Switzerland.

And yes, I remember very little English grammar being taught after 
primary school.
