We have a law about that. It's called the White Slave Traffic Act.
Congress has modified it once or twice, but in its /original/ form it
said this, inter alia:

If a man said to a woman "Say, I hear there's an inspiring new preacher
across the state line in God City, Arkansas. Why don't we go and hear
what he has to say?" and the pair dress up in their Sunday best and
head for the church in God City, but along the way the Devil gets into
the car and makes them stop at a motel along the way and screw their
brains out, everything's cool, because the man did not transport the
woman across the state line for an immoral /purpose/ .

If, however, a man said to a woman "Say, babe, let's go check into that
motel across the line by God City, Arkansas, and screw our brains out!"
and she says "OK!" and off they go, but along the way an Angel of the
Lord gets into the car and makes them feel guilty about their plan to
commit a heinous sin, so they decide to go to the God City Baptist
Church to hear the sermon instead, everything is /not/ cool. The man
transported the woman across the state line for an immoral /purpose/
and could have been subjected to prosecution under the White Slave
Traffic Act.

The purpose of the WSTA was to punish people in general for
fornication, but especially to persecute black men. See Jack Johnson.
Now we have other ways of persecuting blacks, and today, in the absence
of a federal prohibition on polygamy, the WSTA is primarily used
against polygamist Mormon sub-cults.

And so it goes with superstition-based governing.
