Because there may be legal resons preventing THEM from doing so. Not the END USER. THEM. > you keep saying it's completely legal, yet more than one company > disagrees. Wrong again. None of the VM companies nor Apple has ever said that the reason they don't support Snow Leopard Client is because the END USER license agreement says it's not allowed. Somebody started that rumour as a possible explanation as to why Snow Leopard client VMs are unsupported, and the rumor has grown to be one of the most pervasive myths in modern Apple history. Not one shred of evidence, much less any proof, exists in the 10.6 client end user license agreement that running it in a VM on Apple hardware is not allowed. > what would prevent them from offering a feature the user is entitled to > do?? why would they even agree to that? > > it makes no sense. Most likely it's because one of Apple's conditions in licensing them the boot ROM code is that they do not support Snow Leopard Client VMs. > what does make sense is the eula says you can't No it doesn't. What you quoted before doesn't support your argument in the slightest way. > and apple doesn't want them doing something that lets the user breaks > it. Apple very likely doesn't want people running Snow Leopard Client in virtual machines, but since they neglected to include a prohibition against it in the SLA, requiring the VM companies to not support is their version of closing the barn door after the horses have run out. > > Understand the difference between the END USER license agreement and the > > OTHER one between Apple and the VM companies. The latter, not the > > former, governs what Apple OS the VM companies are licensed to support. > > that does not matter. It matters fully. What the end user can do with OS X is governed solely and fully by the end user license agreement, not by any agreement made between two other parties. > if there is nothing stopping the user from doing it, why would anyone > agree to such an agreement?? Because the VM companies accepted it as good deal. If by blocking 10.5 and 10.6 client, they could obtain a license to use the boot ROM code to support 10.5 and 10.6 Server, and all versions of 10.7, 10.8. and 10.9, it makes perfect sense. Anyway, you have demonstrated in countless threads that you will argue a point to death even when you're wrong, so I'm done with you. Enjoy the last word if you wish. -- K. Lang may your lum reek.
