How often did you remove dust from the inside of it? Did you also remove
dust from the components, like the video card, processor heat sink, and
RAM? I do this twice a year with my Mac Pro and it hums right along,
with no overheating issues at all. If you allow dust to accumulate, then
air flow is impeded by dust, and the machine runs hotter with the fans
spinning faster, which is natural and expected.

I find one or two times a year is all that is needed for me. I take mine
out to the patio with a dust rage, a screw driver, and a can of
compressed air, and give it a good dusting. It's mostly silent and cool
(as cool as a Mac Pro tower can be, anyway) most of the time.

Be sure to keep it as dust-free as you can, within reason.

I've had occasional issues with Yosemite, but not a lot more than other
more buggy releases in the past. People seem to love to forget problems
they have encountered in the past and claim things must be much worse or
in decline - selective memory.
