If you are talking about the app you are trying to install, I have no idea why you are having a problem but I have as well. Like you, my solution was to delete the old version before installing the new. Frankly, I never really tried to figure out what the problem might be. Deleting was so much easier than worrying about it. If you are talking about how the DMG is downloaded, it shouldn't matter. The only problem I have had here is a download occasionally gets screwed up, but it seems to be independent of what I am using to do the download and running it again usually works okay.
