Except Alan never held the fastest FF lap track record. For anything in fact. Except maybe #2 and #3 finishes. The person who help that record is exceptional. He has bragged about the number of podium finishes. BUT, many of the races had 5 or fewer cars running.

There was one in 2014, your first podium finish. My record of all posts has a huge hole between 2024 and 2026. Eternal September's retention policy is lacking. The I found is a definite brag. Searching Google News: "OT: Purely to annoy the fan boys and trolls, I had a great weekend 1" Alan Baker unread, May 27, 2014, 1:30:51 PM to ...thanks for asking! Friday was frustrating; pouring rain and teething troubles with the car (mostly ignition timing and a dragging rear brake). Saturday, I sorted out the timing problems and finally diagnosed the dragging brake (the banjo bolt was a little too long for the slightly thicker brake pads I'd installed), but getting it all done meant that I missed qualifying and had to start from the back of the field. I passed all the Formula Vees and three of the Formula Fords to finish 5th in class. Sunday, it finally all came together. The car was working right--just some minor oil seepage, and I was fastest in practice (although I'm sure I would have been second if the fastest FF driver had come out), took third in qualifying, and had some good back and forth racing in the middle pack to take third in the race. My first podium! So, I know you trolls all missed me, but now you know why I had to leave you bereft.

But if true, where's the evidence of wisdom in understanding the differences in needs which drive risk? Would you rather have $1M where to meet your goals you need to risk it in a fund promising a 14% return ... or have $3M where the same revenue amount is achieved at a far lower risk? The answer may depend on if you're "won the race" and can afford to relax and "coast", or if you're still hustling for every last buck. -hh

OMG, $1 million vs $3 million is classic apples and oranges! What if you can have both? > > The answer may depend on if you're "won the race" and can afford to > relax and "coast", or if you're still hustling for every last buck. > It totally depends on just that. But you have it backwards. If you have "won" enough investment net worth, and have 0 debt, together that gives you the freedom to convert some of the investments from chasing every last buck of equity into creating cash flow to better enjoy your last few years. You may understand that in 10 or 15 years. Other TIPS risks can include: Interest Rate Risk: If market interest rates rise sharply, the resale value of TIPS can drop before they mature. "Phantom Income" Taxes: Annual increases in the bond’s principal are considered taxable federal income each year, even though you do not receive those extra dollars until the bond matures. Most investors prefer holding TIPS in tax-advantaged accounts (like an IRA or 401(k)) to avoid this issue. However, if held in a tax advantaged account you still pay income tax when the gains are withdrawn. You just postpone the pain.

You may understand that in 10 or 15 years. But I'm not "chasing every last buck". With your claim of risking a "few hundred grand" in higher dividend funds, that's you. > Other TIPS risks can include: > > Interest Rate Risk: If market interest rates rise sharply, the resale > value of TIPS can drop before they mature. By 2017, the year before you got the Honda engine car, you had been racing for about 4 years. You did win one race on April 29. I think this is the only time you came in ahead of Doug Floer. The rest you finished as follows: April 1 #2 of 3 April 2 #3 of 4 April 2 #3 of 4 April 29 - only win of the season April 30 #3 of 4 April 30 #3 of 4 Aug 12 #3 of 6 Aug 13 #3 of 6 Aug 13 #5 of 6 Sept 2 #2 of 5 Sept 3 #4 of 4 Sept 4 #2 of 7 Floer won 16 of 17 races he ran. McKay finished ahead of you in 7 of the 8 races you ran head-to-head With the new car in 2018 you results did not improve much. Of course, it was a new car to be sorted. But by season-end you were finishing back of the field in 2 of 3 races. June 24 #4 of 5 June 24 #3 of 5 July 14 #2 of 7 July 15 #2 of 6 Sept 15 #2 of 4 Sept 16 #4 of 4 Sept 16 #3 of 4 Then comes 2019 and no Doug Floer. Of course your record improved. 2020 - limited competition, only a few races 2021 - Alan McColl, Doug Floer and Dave Mckay were absent the only 3 races you ran in the last weekend. You won all 3. So what? 2022 - no Doug Floer, no Alan McColl, and Dave McKay ran only 2 races where you were absent. You won 3 of the 7 races you ran against weak competition. Three of those losses were to Erle Archer! 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 - no races run by Fakerboy 2023 - Dave McKay and Doug Floer battled it out and Doug won the trophy. 2024 - very sparse FF fields. Martin Phillips won the trophy by running in the most races. Doug Floer ran 3 races, no Alan McColl, Dave McKay won 7 of 8 races entered. His only loss was to Doug Floer. 2025 - No Doug Floer, no Alan McColl or Dave McKay. Kees Nierop won the trophy. 2026 - No Doug Floer, no Alan McColl or Dave McKay. Brett Payne won the trophy. You are a poor 4th to McKay, Floer and McColl. Worse, you bought that better car and have not even run it much. Second fastest lap means nothing but you can run a fast lap. It won you no races or higher finishes.

Followup to my own message - intended for the Maria creature that doubts AppleCare+ value proposition. Over the time I have owned Apple products these incidents have happened: First iPhone (a 6s) dropped into water and died. It was still under Apple warranty and replaced for $99. Dropped my first iPad 7 on an airport ramp. Bricked - confirmed by an independent repair shop. It was out of standard warranty so bought a replacement iPad 7. Started buying AppleCare+ Bought an iPad 9 and gave the wife the gen 7. The iPad 7 volume controls stopped working. Apple replaced it under warranty, it is still working fine. The iPad 9 screen cracked. Also replaced under warranty. Wife's iPhone 14 battery went below 80%, Apple replaced the battery. Same for my iPhone Pro battery. Apple will replace my iPad 9 battery in the next few months. In addition Apple has fixed two charging port issues, no charge. So far no hardware issues with 2 Apple Watches, a MacBook Air, and 4 Air Tags. Both iPads are 128gb with cell service. Those were about about $550 each when new. The two battery replacements are worth about $200. About $1,350 in potential expense avoided - and broken iPads had been replaced with new. Intangible - peace of mind knowing I will not get hit with a big bill if something breaks and I can show up at the Apple Store and get expert assistance with issues. We have spent a bit more than that, but not much more, for ApplCare+. None of my Android devices were kept long enough to have comparable repair histories. However I have a pair of 8 year old HP laptops that have cost a total of under $200 since new for repair - a battery replacement. Hope the Mac can do that too.

I will say this much: I will gladly pay for AppleCare since I have already spilled coffee on a 2017 MacBook Air, killed my gaming laptop doing a battery replacement (this happens to a lot of people with the unit I owned) and had a keyboard become defective. At this point, even if a manufacturer were to try to sell me a device with a user-replaceable battery, I would rather have a skilled technician do it since the days of simply pulling the old one out and putting a new one in are long gone. -- CrudeSausage MacBook Air M4 iPhone 13 Friendly Apple zealot
