But if true, where's the evidence of wisdom in understanding the 
differences in needs which drive risk?

Would you rather have $1M where to meet your goals you need to risk it 
in a fund promising a 14% return ... or have $3M where the same revenue 
amount is achieved at a far lower risk?

The answer may depend on if you're "won the race" and can afford to 
relax and "coast", or if you're still hustling for every last buck.
