Perhaps one reason no-one was interested is that they don't understand the nature of the 'high resolution' market in stereo audio. For serious domestic audio, people tend to use LPCM formats, not ones like mp3 or AAC which discard details. Indeed, it would be weird to want 24 bit resolution but employ a lossy format.
