Mostly, it is. Try port 465 instead.
urd 465/tcp smtps # URL Rendesvous Directory for SSM /
# SMTP over SSL (TLS)
igmpv3lite 465/udp # IGMP over UDP for SSM
My ISP (verizon.net, now run by AOL) uses port 465, but demands a login
and password, using SSL/TLS. You can tell sendmail what port to use.
