Not really.
You just tell the mail program to use the smtp server of your provider,
on the port they want, with login/pass - see man mailx for how.
Or configure the local MTA (postfix, sendmail, whatever) to talk to the
mail account smtp server, using the login/password as required. This is
what I use. Of course, this is not trivial to setup. Easy, but not
trivial ;-)
