How did you prepare the installer on the USB memory stick ?
Direct copy of the .iso image file to to the raw device /dev/sdX with
dd/cp/cat, or use of some tool such as unetbootin ?

Enter an installer shell in console 2 or 3, check that the USB
controller is correctly managed and the stick is correctly detected with
dmesg, lspci, lsusb, fdisk -l...
