Not really, because the printer native language is postscript. CUPS has
to convert everything to postscript. When sending "lp -o raw" you bypass
postscript conversion in the computer, so printing goes faster, overall.

It is possible, though, that the printer also supports hpijs or pcl3. I
would try. Mine does. However, the computer takes longer to process it
(one of the two, I don't remember which). I use them when the printer
fails to print something due to not enough memory.
