Rather than just a <press A, press B,..> description, I need a hardware-engineer's theoretical explanation. Like: to get the battery-powered rPi, with no display nor input, to boot into playing a sequence of *.wav; you can bypass the login, and set the initial 'task', by editing /etc/inittab and what imediately follows. And then to navigate the selection of files played with no input, except the powerswitch, you [time modulate] cut the power at 'selected times'. Yes, I admit, it's easy to forget the details [that's why the Chinese invented writing], but if someone understood the underlying principles, of 'jailbreaking an ereader',they could explain them. IMO most of the code would be in ROM and therefore in-accessable. WDYS?

Opinion doesn't count. It either is or isn't, and guessing or giving an
opinion means nothing, you need to look at fact.
Since I couldn't use my Kobo Mini until I had gotten it online, I suspect
like my Blackberry Tablet it wouldn't do anything until it was loaded with
the latest firmware. SInce that could happen, it can't be loaded in ROM,
it has to be flash memory.

Just mount the ereader under linux, and there is a sqlite file somewhere, and all you need to do is to make one change with > the standard sqlite program. I did a couple of years ago so I don't remember the details, but you can find this online. Of course, this will limit your device's usability, but my main concern was to ensure that my daughter is not spied upon. Vilmos

It likely can be done. Most of the older tablets, e-readers and phones can be dealt with apparently. Some of the newer tablets have to be back-graded on the firmware before they can be modified via the unlocking of the boot-loader and rooted. Apparently the newer firmware on tablets took advantage of a strange law against modification of your paid for hardware. AFAIK nearly everything is in Flash. Backup everything! Good luck with your Kubo Mini and get back to us about your results. bliss
