There's no good reason that the tools that I have created for myself
could not be "gifted" to the community. In some ways they are FAR superior
to what commercial options are out there. It would not harm me or my
employer to "share" that effort with the world at large.

Everyone would benefit. Others would get something useful and my own
tools would be improved for my benefit.

Collectively, what we might spend in terms of effort would be FAR less
that what we would spend buying someone else's relatively limited commercial
tools.

Software is just one of those areas where "stone soup" is simply the most
economic and efficient approach.

Pretty much. Software is one of those obvious areas where solutions arise
and don't need to be recreated again. Yet corporations need a constant revenue
stream and try to force everyone into paying for something they already have.
So it becomes remarkably more efficient for people to band together and create
their own solution or create their own entirely independently.

Software is infinitely durable and has a marginal production cost of zero.

Old, well solved areas in computer software are like that 60 year old drug
that the investment banker tried to jack up the price on.

Apparently it is to you, moron, since you constantly claim Linux
succeeded on the merits.

Which is pure horseshit. Like most every FOSS pile of shit software,
the initial and early releases of the Linux kernel were bogus compared
to the proprietary product they were copied from. Linux would've died
immediately if it was closed source and had a price tag attached.

Creepy wasn't talking to me, moron.

You know, over and over and over again, turd, you've shown yourself
unable to follow a thread. Later on you'll take quotes from this thread
and wrongly attribute them to me.

What a dumbass.

No, shit-for-brains, you're a hypocrite (like Creepy) because you
slither around here pretending FOSS is important to you, but the ONLY
thing you care about is money.

The girlie-man Chris Ahlstrom should've quit his Windows job YEARS ago -
seeing as how he thinks "Windows is garbage and MS is evil and a cancer"
(his claims). Instead, he's going to spend nearly all his career
developing code on/for Windows. You too. What a joke.

As I've said before, y'alls GNU principles begin and end at your wallet.

Possessive forms[edit]
The existence of the genitive (or possessive) form y'all's indicates
that y'all functions as a pronoun as opposed to a phrasal element.[11]
The possessive form of y'all has not been standardized; numerous forms
can be found, including y'alls, y'all's, y'alls's, you all's, your all's,
and all of y'all's.[10] All forms other than y'all's originate in

Some FOSS is produced simply because a company needs an app, and using
existing FOSS libraries makes development faster... but also requires
some giving back.

Some is produced because a company needs an app, develops it, and has no
interest in monetizing the app, so why not let others use it if it might
be of value to them? And in return, the company may well get
enhancements, bug fixes, whatever.

If your goal is to make money off the sales and support of software, FOSS
is probably not your best option. If you're *not* in the software sales
and support biz, though, releasing any apps you develop as FOSS is a net
win for everyone.

The Linux kernel DID suck for a long time (by comparison to Unix), but
it didn't disappear because it didn't cost anything, and the source was
free.

Which 'volunteers' are you talking about, girlie-man?

All I see are distros and FOSS projects aggressively begging users for
money and other donations. I never heard of a volunteer asking for
money afterwards.

Google would have no problems paying royalties.

Nor would anyone else that gets Linux for free.

What such a thing would actually mean in the big picture is a single entity
that Microsoft could attack, undermine, and run out of business. THAT is far
more important than whether or not people pay Linus.

[deletia]

Linux survives because it's not like Atari, or Be, or IBM, or Sun, or Apple,
or any of the other platforms/companies that Win/DOS juggernaut killed.

A single entity to pay royalties to is also also an easy target for
corporate destruction.

How did Microsoft kill Atari? Was it Microsoft's fault that they didn't
bother to keep up with technological changes and made few significant
improvements to the platform? At a time when the PC could format disks
at 1.44MB, Atari will still at 720KB. Twice the amount of disks for no
reason. Its platform also lacked quality third-party software as a
result of the company doing nothing to counter rampant piracy. How is
this Microsoft's fault JEDIDIAH? As for Be, it's not Microsoft's fault
that the owner of the company was too much of a moron to accept Apple's
large offer and insisted on getting double at the last minute. Whether
you like to admit it or not, Be was already dead when it ported the
operating system to x86. IBM died of its own incompetence as Microsoft
backed away from OS/2 in 1990 when Windows hadn't yet become so
powerful. IBM had more resources and a great amount of time to fix the
upcoming situation and they did little to nothing, still not Microsoft's
fault. As for Apple, I would love for you to explain how Microsoft
killed Apple in the 1990s when it fact it saved the company when they
were about to die of insignificance by vowing to port Office to the
platform in addition to injecting capital into the company when they
needed it most. Besides, it's not Microsoft's fault that Apple took so
long to come up with a decent operating system to replace the aging
Classic system.

You can't be serious?
Can you?

Just about everything I see from the false Linux advocates in this group
is either a lie, silence when another herd member lies or a half truth.
You and your ilk are a complete embarrassment to honest Linux users. You
really are exactly what Linus Torvalds claims you are, mentally ill.

So let's see how honest you and your buddy Ron is. You screwed the pooch
with your false claim regarding the NFL and MS Surface tablets.
So where is your retraction?
It will never come. You just want your false statements to stand for the
search engines.

Why do you try to explain an idiot like 7 by calling him creative and
zany?
Why?
Because again, you want his 100 percent bullshit posts to stand
unchallenged so the search engines pick them up as is.

That is as bad as lying directly.

And then there is the ultimate liar/idiot Peter Kohlmann. Why don't any
of you false Linux advocates challenge his false claims?

Same reasons as above and also because you fear upsetting your fellow
herd members.

I see the Windows/Apple side disagreeing with each other all the time.
The Linux side?
The best you loons will come up with is a half assed one liner making a
lukewarm attempt at disagreeing.

Like I said, you and your herd of false advocates are truly an
embarrassment to real Linux users. Shit, some of the loudest and foulest
voices here don't even use Linux. Chrisv that's you.

All of you false Linux advocates would be better moving on to some other
hobby because you certainly aren't helping the Linux/FOSS/GNU cause.

Of course. Any happy Linux user MUST be a lie...

Has anyone said that? No. In reality, there are happy GNU/Linux users
(people with low expectations and standards) and there are losers in
denial. I doubt anyone is actually ENTIRELY happy with the GNU/Linux
experience though.

Trolling 101: Accuse others of exactly what you are guilty of.

> Of course. Any happy Linux user MUST be a lie...

Or they are using it only because it doesn't cost anything, or (insert
lie here)...

Hence the reason you and your herd accuse me of lying... all my horrid
unquotable lies.

Hey, why not rise above this and show how you use it and what you like about
it. That would be great advocacy!

So you snip my post thereby ignoring the points I made regarding Chris
Ahlstrom and Ron not retracting their incorrect statements about the
Surface and NFL and then you move the goal posts by inserting a comment
regarding "happy Linux users" which has absolutely NOTHING to do with
what I said.

Thank you because you have just given the group yet another example of
the dishonest Linux user and the depths to which they will sink in order
to defend Linux.

I notice that little foul mouthed worm chrisv jumped right on top of your
deceptive reply. What I don't understand is why you and others support
such a poor Linux advocate? Apparently he is incapable of installing
Linux as he posts from Windows and if that wasn't enough he is a foul
mouthed individual. Another embarrassment to the Linux community IMHO.

The rest of your garbage was not relevant. You DENY any positive Linux
experience ALWAYS and without fail.
