from saying I think you responded to Carroll's comments about mental 
health issues in an excellent way. I will speak well of you and commend 
you where I think you behave well.

An apology in this case isn't warranted, David. I took no offense to 
your comments. For clarification, My parents didn't 'beat me' - I don't 
consider having my arse spanked if I misbehaved quite nicely to be a 
beating. You may find some modern snowflakes who'd disagree and perhaps 
even claim it harms the child for life somehow; but I'd have to 
disagree with both claims.

My parents got me a bicycle but didn't get me a helmet, knee guards, or 
elbow guards. Horrible! They didn't get me any tree or rock climbing 
safety gear either, I'm extremely lucky to have survived my childhood.

David, I won't deny the thought has crossed my mind on several 
occasions; what I'd do if I ever met you in person. Sure. That being 
said, I always found myself coming back to the reasonable decision; the 
only reasonable decision, talk to you, try to explain things to you in 
person. I think alot of our initial problem stemmed from a 
misunderstanding, or a series of them. That and well, despite having a 
love of certain shows I know are made in Britain - The humour I very 
much like, I don't understand how you think nor do I have a firm 
understanding of some of your british or, old english phrases. And this 
is coming from a DrWho fan who's favorite Dr was the one with the long 
scarf and K-9.

I didn't accuse you of that with the initial post which caused a major 
issue between us. But, in case anyone has doubts, I will clarify that 
you didn't publish the original address to usenet. You took said 
published address, converted it to a gsv and posted the resulting url 
to usenet, some into newsgroups I never posted in, let alone ever 
lurked.

David, I don't know why he opted to lie about me, but he has done so. 
His latest one is the accusation that I'm manipulating anyone here 
against him. Prior to that one, He claimed that not only did I have the 
bot itself, in compiled form no less, I was also helping AND protecting 
the author. I take issue with lies of that kind, David.

If by that you mean, I'm aware of my surroundings, then sure. if by 
most of us, you mean the sheeple, then no, I'm not like them, and I 
wouldn't encourage anyone else to be, either. I prefer to think for 
myself and be responsible for my own decisions and their outcomes. I 
require no hand holding and no safety net. I'm genX, David.

I rode my bike without a helmet, I rode in the beds of pickup trucks. I 
played with firecrackers, and didn't blow any piece of me or a friend 
off, nor did I set fire to the yard and/or nearby neighborhood.

The same is true with you and I. We had some misunderstandings.

I want to move forward in peace.

To you it is of paramount importance that I "admit", whether I agree or 
not, to your view of things. And since I do not agree this means you 
need to me to lie. When this is pointed out you go back to you merely 
need me to agree to your view. Which is what I keep saying.

You have a story you tell yourself about how you are some amazing 
hero... and key to your story is you need a villain. A capable and 
worthy villain. In that way you flatter David and I by selecting us as 
the villains in your personal story, but it is not a role I want, nor 
one I think David wants.

Why not just move forward? OK, we disagreed in the past. We each think 
the other was wrong, even dishonest. So? It is not like I am asking you 
to marry me -- I merely want civility.

I have asked repeatedly -- but you so far have not accepted that as a 
possibility.

Do you know what it would take for you to grow to the point you could? 
If so perhaps I can help you get there (or not -- I certainly make no 
promises).

While there is certainly an adversarial (though playful) tone toward him
the offer is sincere.

Correct. It shocked me when he spoke of decompiling in response to my
comments about the bot. He has long since said he did not mean to imply he
had the code or executable, and I have said I have no belief he does for
almost as long. 

He for some reason needs me to say I agree with him on details of that
misunderstanding of which I don’t agree. It is odd — similar to if I
insisted he apologize for falsely assuming I built my view of him blindly
based on what you said (paraphrasing). He was wrong. But so what? Certainly
not worth demanding he agree with me he was in error and apologize. Hell,
he can still hold onto that incorrect belief and I would still want peace.

I think he has implied he is working on it but keeping details secret so
neither Carroll nor I can see. If so — and I could be wrong — I wish him
well on that project.

I have had reason to think someone is seeking to fiddle with my router — I
have wondered if Diesel is trying to knock out my ‘net connection for a bit
to see if the bot still posts, along with presumably doing the same to
Carroll. 

To be clear I have no proof it is Diesel, nor even proof of any attack at
all, and am not suggesting it should be assumed to be him even if turns out
I am being “attacked”. I merely have wondered.

We have had several times when things were painfully slow -- lasting 
about 30 min. each. I reset the router and it did not help. Have not 
gotten a new one. I did reset the wireless channels and that seems to 
have helped, but even my wired connection was being impacted.

Called my ISP and they said they have no issues on their side. I 
*should* have asked if they saw spikes of incoming connections but did not.

In the past when I have had issues I ran a script I made to log ping 
times -- was able to prove the the ISP we were having issues (not tied 
to anyone doing anything to me, just their bad service). It could be 
that is returning -- but they redid wiring years ago for this whole area 
and things have been better. If I continue to have issues I will run 
that ping script to log it and will also look more into incoming events. 
My router offers little in the way of logging though.

But it could just be that. Again, I want to be very clear I am NOT 
accusing anyone of anything -- but it went through my head if Diesel can 
do as he claims he likely COULD do this and it would be a test to see if 
the bot was posting. And if he did this he would likely also do it to 
Carroll... unless he was doing it just to be a jerk (AND AGAIN NOT 
SAYING THAT IS THE CASE!)

What I suspect MIGHT be happening is some sort of DOS attack -- and I do 
not think that would show up there.

There are some errors showing up on my router, but I will need to do 
more research to understand what they are saying. Does point to a MAC 
address which is not any of the wireless devices we use nor SOME of the 
wired devices in my house I have checked. I have not checked them all.

This is stuff I never knew tons about and have certainly forgotten much 
of the little bit I had learned before.

You'll laugh now - I sometimes get that very same feeling! ;-)

I once took an age to check out all of my connections. I managed to sort 
out the printer and my wife's bedroom clock - but got stuck for a while 
on the 'Smart' TV!

If I'm 'suspicious' - I disconnect my router from the telephone line and 
the power and also restart my iMac. Then plug my router into the power 
supply again and reset to factory conditions. That invariably does the 
trick! My IP address will change so an attacker will have to 'start over'.

I can call my ISP to get a new IP, but if I just reset the router I keep 
the same one. If my issues continue I will do that, but things seem OK now.

why would I waste my shells bandwidth for that...simply getting a new 
IP resolves it.

But that would not in any way harm the theoretical test I noted. Quite
