The sad thing is he has skills and is not stupid... he is just so
focused on his victim mentality that he cannot actually show ANYTHING in
his life but a broken family and his flooding of COLA.

Joke's on him -- OBS is a lot faster to change parameters than trying to
script things with ffmpeg. It also has multiple capture options, not
just "this rectangle on the screen".

I know...I used to script my streaming and recording with ffmpeg. ;)

What more could one desire other than a "rectangle on the screen?"

I have never seen a circular video. I believe that all videos
are rectangular.

But ffmpeg also has lots and lots of capture options, and ultimately
both ffmpeg and OBS use X to get the data so there is no difference.
In fact, OBS is just a frontend to ffmpeg, i.e. a crutch.

A "rectangle on the screen" implies an arbitrary one. There are some
which can capture a specific window. Yes, the windows is a rectangle,
but it is a specific object.

There are MANY other options than that. Compression, frames per second,
to capture or not capture the mouse (and with some tools you can alter
that in post-processing and have it show or not show), audio levels, and
more.

...

I vaguely recall you posting about it (then again, that could've been

I solved the problem.

To celebrate I have transcoded a simple video entirely using
hardware acceleration via the ffmpeg cuvid and nvenc coders:

ffmpeg -c:v h264_cuvid -i input.mp4 -c:v h264_nvenc output.mkv

The video is entitled "Carroll Response" and serves as an
adequate rebuttal to your inane comments.

The video is posted to alt.binaries.multimedia.transformation

For full effect, playback with an infinite loop.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Was it related to the nvidia driver (I didn't have the issue)?

Of course it's the nvidia driver (see my other post).

What can one expect from a pack of exorbitantly overpaid corporate
flunkies?

If Nvidia would release their specs then the volunteer open source
community would supply an infallible product.

Being self-governed as it is, the listserv concept will never go away but it'll never be well known.

Linux offers the least choice.

That's what Steve Carroll-Petruzzellis does when he gets mad. He quickly creates a sock, starts a thread so he can claim it was Snit. Hey it was my left hand... and then Steve Carroll-Petruzzellis talks to his own post with his right hand. Steve Carroll-Petruzzellis suffers from senile fantasies so, to him, everything, even responses to his idiocy, are "insults". Who *doesn't* know this? If you have 'b.doc' open in a program such as Atom and you want to change its name to 'd.doc' via a bash script, that might be useful. I know we have different perspectives for a good reason. I'm guessing, after kill filtering all the sock puppets from Steve Carroll-Petruzzellis, it's essentially just two flooders producing 95% of the bombardment. It is blatant. And both completely unbalanced nut cases.

I have a little script I use as well, but it's better than yours.

Nvenc/cuvid require a KEPLER or greater GPU. You can
discover the GPU with lspci | grep -i nvidia.

For example, my card is:

NVIDIA Corporation GK208B [GeForce GT 730] (rev a1)

The "K" stands for "Kepler."

The problem is that most OEMs will not include the
actual GPU in their marketing specs. For example,
GT 730 cards come in three different models: GF108,
GK108, and GK208. The "F" represents a Fermi GPU
that does NOT support nvenc/cuvid. An uninformed
buyer may be attracted to the low price of the GT 730
and inadvertently acquire a GF108.

Online sellers ALWAYS withhold detailed specs. It
becomes impossible to make an informed decision.
That's why I no longer buy shirts from on-line
merchants. The fabric weight is NEVER specified.
I have bought what I thought would be a cheap and
warm (i.e. thick) winter shirt only to open the box
and find essentially a piece of ultra-thin tissue
paper.

It also seems to be an American phenomenon. British
online merchants usually include far more detailed specs.

American shopping sites are designed by the spiritual brethren
of Steve ("Dummy") Carroll. They are all javascript/css
dazzle and no substance.

I would love to see the group become that! I would love to see
people, for example, pick tasks they do with Desktop Linux which
they believe are handled better than the competition. I have
encouraged that for a long time. But so far few if any such tasks
    have been shown.

    Linux is a Server, A Cloud, A service, A mobile Platform, A
developers dream come true, A super cluster, a Main frame and a
    DESKTOP. It's not JUST a desktop. You're a two-bit bullshit coward
who refuses to face what Linux actually is. It's too much for you,
    obviously.

Snit (referencing to the above quote):

But it is not all of those things. Not even close. It is USED by
those things but it is NOT those things.

  Marek Novotny (some time later):

Android isn't Linux. Android makes "use" of the Linux kernel.
Android is indeed open source, but it is not community driven open
source. Those that know the difference likely won't cry over Android
ditching the Linux kernel and adopting their own kernel. It simply
never mattered for all the reasons I stated above. Now the fact that
I have to articulate this in writing so these clueless tards like
DFS and Snit can gain some insights because they LACK their
own insights is what I find troubling. They both have no business
arguing in here. They are simply too stupid to have a conversation
about that which they just don't fundamentally understand in the
    first place.
    -----

Notice Marek uses the concepts I taught him (about how Linux is "USED" by the things he listed) then fantasizes about how I did not know the information HE got wrong and I corrected him with (and did so with no name calling or insults).

You left out his I, I, I, I. AM. BETTER. THAN. Snit AND DFS!
He is clearly feeling very insecure these days.

Well, if he wants to play this game with me he'll find pictures of
his wife on imgur with dildos all over her and I can cross post
those too. Keep fucking around Snit. I can play this game too.

Protected code is being built into GnuPG.

His desire is to see Steve Carroll irritated by having me get blamed for his actions. And hey, that could or could not... you know what I mean.

I have known turnips who argue better than you do. You can say I am a monkey wrench for all I care. BTW, I've already pointed out that his use of "herd" to describe Steve Carroll is insulting, since he's likening them to lower life forms. Turns out Jeremy's persistent referencing of Steve Carroll met that definition, so he abandoned that, too. Can emoticons be concatenated into a string with a logical connection to the "real" world; that is the question posed recently by those astonished at the fire-hose of nonsense from assorted google-posters and neck beard freaks.
