So far Peter Köhlmann has responded and noted the challenge is too much for
him... all he could do was give the predicted insults as he ran from
speaking of technology.

Any "advocate" think they can do better?

The combination of having them all at once... as well as the features of
videos I showed and spoke of... and you snipped. :)

The part about how you edit your videos? I'm not going to bother with
complex "post-production", Mr Spielberg, just to demonstrate a point.

Also, let me be clear: I could do much of this with a specific Automator
script designed just for this purpose (I think I could even get the specific
edit in there). If so, then I *could* do this exact workflow with one click
or hot key or menu item.

But that is cheating. That is silly. I am talking about doing this with
general GUI work and no special hot keys or scripts made just for this task.
Now, of course, for someone else they might not have "recipes" so that would
be added or they might show saving to "art projects" folder or whatever (as
well as emailing).

But no special scripts made just for this activity... that is silly.

So far:

* Peter Köhlmann has responded and noted the challenge is too much for
him... all he could do was give the predicted insults as he ran from
speaking of technology.

* Owl tried to change the topic to using hot keys for every feature you can
possibly do and not showing menus and otherwise just ran.

* Vallor spewed a bunch of nonsense and ran off whining that I am actually
asking the "advocates" to show the benefits of the "choice" they claim Linux
gives them.

Any "advocate" think they can do better? Seems not. So the whole "choice"
thing on Linux is not really showing itself to be much of anything... just
an empty claim.

Several already responded - making it clear doing things which are fairly
simple on OS X is beyond their ability on Linux. That is OK, maybe they will
return the challenge and find things which they can do on Linux which are
hard to do on OS X. That would be cool.

Make up your mind. I thought you "made it clear you didn't care how

I don't think people on Linux, or any other system for that matter,
would follow the convoluted procedure you lay out above.

I for one would simply selcect "Email Link" from the browser menu, then
add any notes I had to the resulting email.

The user doesn't need a PDF, just a link to the recipe, and if you want
to tell the person you subsituted coconut oil for butter, it can be said
in the email. Your way is non-productive, inefficient, and error-prone.

You're moving the goalposts.

Linking the user to the original material is not a "lower quality
result."

Nonsense.

Justr send the person a link to the recipe. Add any notes to the
resulting email. Rapid, reliable, secure.

Then they cannot just print the PDF in the email... and sending the link
also does not send a PDF they can easily print.

I do similar things often with things like recipes, lesson plans, questions
my students send me, etc. Comes down to you have no good method so you are
crying sour grapes.

And, heck, Owl's task is completely absurd - automate the downloading of the
print versions of all the recipes featured on the front page of
allrecipes.com. Far more specific and no good reason I can see to ever want
this - but I took him up on his challenge.

My solution is twice as fast (and that is after he sped his up after seeing
mine) and mine makes PDFs half the size.

But he still "beat" me on converting files to PDF from the file browser.
Fine. It is more about sharing and learning and teaching than who "wins".

I am noting the workflow applies to more than just the specific I gave...
hence why it is a valid task. Comes down to you have no good method to do
this so you just make excuses. Fine. You would be better off just remaining
quiet. :)

As described above: it is a lower quality result. No printable / savable PDF
with the full content.

Below you just go on making excuses. Fine: for you, Linux fails at doing
this task. I am OK with that.

Not the task in question... but THAT task can be done on OS X with a simple
drag and drop to get the link to the mail client.

They don't need any of that. All they need is the link that takes them
to the web page with the recipe.

My method beats the crap out of your way of doing it. And the only
topic here is sending a recipe from a Web page with added notes, not all
that other goalpost moving stuff you're throwing in.

There's no need to go down to the desktop and start moving icons around
when the browser menu provides everything needed.

No, just an online recipe, the challenge you started this thread with.

Unnecessary complications to send somebody a recipe for chocolate chip
cookies with the suggestion butter be substituted by coconut oil.

The criteria is not duplicating your convolutions with Mac OS X. The
task which "fits the criteria" is sending somebody a recipe with notes
added.

Send a recipe from a Web site with attached notes. Creating a PDF file
is unnecessary.

...and again, the problem with any "blind print" option is that you don't
know what layout tweaks and print options are appropriate. This is especially
true if you are talking about someone else entirely.

Recipes in particular even have different formating options available for
printing for this very reason. Different people have different preferences.

Right. So? Pick the preferences you want for the file. I am fine with that.
