You might notice that Snit has complained about rising education costs and low teacher pay, like the two are mutually exclusive. The reality is what you're saying it is, for too many, there is a lack of drive to attend college. If you want 'The State' to pay for everything, it's going to cost you dearly, ask Greece. If you want someone who will value an education and use it to do more than troll usenet with, make them pay for it.

When I was recruiting for the Navy the emphasis was on high school graduates and not GEDs or dropouts. Not because they were smarter or even really more educated, but because it was a good indicator of willingness to complete a task ahead of them. I see jobs for electronics techs that require a degree. Utter hogwash, a tech doesn't need a degree he/she needs a technical certificate and will be more than qualified for an entry level tech job. He/she can learn the rest during the rest of their work years. -- Lloyd

True in many cases. Take, for example, what Snit's business is in... I even taught my kids more about web development than he knows (and he teaches it!). I'm sure he's wondering why they cut his physical classroom time down to a couple of online classes (that probably very few are taking). The answer is that he's lazy and this field moves way too fast for lazy people. Instead of futzing around with Applescript and recipes in COLA, he should be leveraging that knowledge into learning Javascript and applying it to his business. But he won't because it'd mean he'd have to actually work for a change. It always amazed me how people who don't work for a living, who are living off taxpayer dollars when they are fully capable of not doing so, have the right to vote.
