Have it YOUR way, tard! .Thank you for vindicating my position. :) .Thanks for confirming your inability to recognize what an applet is in Linux. That fact is truly astounding. Applets, of course, are the most distinguishing feature of the Linux Desktop. http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/ .How about this, "Applets (which are little apps you can place in the panels)." .Then ... http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets .Notice, the clear separation of 32-bit ONLY applets from 64-bit applets - NOT. .In Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition, at least, their applets are all jumbled together and NOT properly segregated in the least. .Now, you may return to your coma.

This "applet" thingy looks like a mint+cinnamon specific thing. I do use mint, don't use cinnamon, don't encounter this "issue" and frankly don't really care. It's pretty simple: if you don't like the way Mint+Cinnamon does things, then you have two choices: 1) fix it, 2) don't use it. You prefer option 3, "whine like a toddler who dropped his lollipop." Pathetic. Fix it or forget it, but man, you are in *sore* need of a life.

Fix it or forget it, but man, you are in *sore* need of a >> life. > > I have no problems with LinuxMint 64 bit. > It's actually one of the better versions of Linux. Like anything in life - Windows, LGX or otherwise - it ain't perfect, but it's reasonably good. I was going to say "it does most of what I need an OS to do", but a moments' reflection suggests this is the wrong way to look at it. Mostly, an OS's job is to be invisible, a black box between interface, application and information. Meaning, as a trivial example, the user shouldn't even be aware of whether he's running LGX, Windows, OSX or something else, if his goal is to simply open and edit a document or check his email. What LGX does for me that the others don't is it leaves me more or less the fuck alone. Case in point. Many moons ago, I was doing some web development. I had an XP box to work on. No worries, runs MS's server offering. Except that it doesn't; it runs a crippled, stripped-down version of the server, which supports few sites and fewer connections (or the other way around). Why? The hardware is capable of handling 100 sites and 1,000 connections, so why can't you use what you need? Oh, right, because the OS is *designed* to be crippled, to get in the way, to stop you doing your job. Well, fine, move to a server edition. Now the web server works, but the AV tools stopped working, insisting that if you're running a server, you must be made out of money, so buy the corporate edition. This sort of "fuck the user, give us money" mentality is great if you're the one getting paid, not so great if you're the one trying to get things done. LGX, by contrast, rarely if ever applies such arbitrary limits. You want to run a web server? Go ahead. Want it to host 1,000 sites? No prob. Need 10,000 connections? If your hardware will keep up, go for it. In short the OS, to all intents and purposes, simply ceases to exist as an entity of concern; it is over there, in the background, out of the way, simply letting you get on with your task. Are there cases where Windows is a better alternative? Not really, but there are cases where it is the only viable option. Case in point: DVD ripping. Want to back up your DVDs to streamable files, then tuck the disks away for safe keeping? LGX's offerings in this are improving steadily, but aren't quite on a part with the commercial offerings... which are more or less Windows-centric. Again, though, it's that whole mentality of "fuck the user, give us money". First from the media houses, trying to make things copy proof,so even legitimate users can't make backup copies; second from the OS vendor who thinks fucking the users over this way is a *Good Thing* (tm). You know, the guys who built all that DRM shit into their OS from the drivers on up. I don't mind Windows being good or bad, or better than LGX or worse, or even cheaper or more expensive. I *do* mind being expected to pay for it, only to have some corporate jackass inform me that no, sorry, my own legitimately-purchased media is not something I am allowed to make copies of for my own purposes, or that my hardware should have completely pointless, arbitrary limits imposed upon it, all to feed someone else's pocketbook. It's not Windows *per se* which is the problem; it is the culture of unlimited greed which it represents that is the problem. Windows is just a particularly in-your-face example of Greed Gone Wild.

Sounds like panel applets. I can't comment on MATE but I would expect
anything but the most obscure project to be built for both architectures.
So it sounds like a non-problem really.
Another twerp trying to take a web link and turn it into something
it really isn't and blow it all out of proportion.

I wonder what the big tragedy is supposed to be.

Once you pin him down, as you noticed, it turns out to be a very trivial issue with one particular DM on one particular distro... even, presumably, one particular *version* of said DM and/or distro... making the fix, even on the system in question, pretty much a trivial thing. Oh my, LGX is about to come crumbling down. Hee hee.

.Any body using a 64-bit Linux desktop is lying about how great it is. Why is Moi NOT surprised? .Moi found out that most of the Linux Applets do NOT work in 64-bit Cinnamon Mint, on day one. .In other words, using 64-bit Linux is a joke since far too many of the Linux APPs don't work in it. Furthermore, the 32-bit ONLY Applets are not properly segregated from 64-bit Applets in any Linux Desktop distro. Moi would not be surprised at all if the same problems exists in the Desklets, Extensions, and even some APPs. .Yeah, these Linux clowns can barely produce 32-bit APPs that update properly, let alone fool with 64-bit versions. Maybe in another 20-years - LOL? .Je suis Moi, posted from Mint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bVDQ4rVrM4
