Kernel-4.8 runs well, as fully expected, on my system.
Never have I experienced a problem with a new kernel.
NEVER.  That's how fantastic the Linux kernel is.

However, after booting with the new kernel I need to do
two things.

1) Compile new nvidia drivers.  I need this to run X.

With Gentoo this is NO problem.  I just execute:

emerge nvidia-drivers

2) Compile exfat kernel module.  I need this to read/write
that stupid Microshit file format, mainly for USB thumb drives.

This is also simple.  Just cd to the exfat-nofuse source tree
and execute:

make && make install && depmod -a

But this time there is an "issue" with the exfat source:

It seems that the exfat module folks are not keeping up with
the latest kernel changes.

Oh well.  A patch will likely be available shortly.

GNU/Linux can read/write ALL Microshit disk formats, even
though Microshit has never publicly released the specs.

How many GNU/Linux disk formats can Microshit, using the
fully open specs, read?

The answer is NONE.  That's NONE.  ZIP.  NADA.

In fact, Microshit can't read ANY disk formats other than
its own.

Can there be a better indicator of a junk OS?

It's unfortunate that you cannot plug an ext3 USB drive,
or any other foreign format, and have it recognized by
Microshit.  Outside of its own few disk types, Microshit
is totally powerless.

For the sake of GNU/Linux users, I should indicate that users
have a choice of TWO exfax file system modules.

I refer to the exfat-nofuse module, which is currently in need
of patching.

But there is also the exfat-fuse module that is currently quite
functional.

So the GNU/Linux user is far from "crippled" as the dumb-fuck stooge
likes to imply.

Isn't it nice to have an abundance of choice?

By default, Ubuntu won't be able to read exFAT so it's definitely not
a part of the kernel. However, installing exfat-fuse and exfat-utils
remedies that problem. It takes about 10 seconds to do.

One of the greatest weaknesses of Linux is that there is no
standardized driver format, so that each new kernel requires driver
recompilation and even code change. No problem if driver is open
source, but as in this case someone has to make change.... Of course
this greatly discourages proprietary vendors on producing drivers for
Linux...

features of Open Source yet Feeb is sitting waiting for someone else
to fix it......

Basically he is correct. Ext2Fsd can read EXT2, EXT3 and EXT4
Write access is *dangerous* and symlinks-support is dubious

Other linux filesystems are unreadable by windows, such as Btrfs,
Xfs and Zfs
